Spirit arrived from Peterborough, Ontario. He was surrendered to Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue due to complications surrounding a Black Bear attack. Shortly after Spirits arrival he made a new friend at the Rescue, Apple. They helped each other to adapt to their new forever home at The Rescue.
They became a bonded duo.
Spirit lived a full and appreciated life, into his early 40's. Eventually succumbing to the wraths of age on the cool and beautiful morning of June 26th 2024.
Spirit will be sadly missed by all of the Rescue & Sanctuary Residents,
Sharron Allen Wallace Founder & Rescuer, The LCHPRS Volunteers and his beloved Apple.
We All love you so much Spirit.
Thank you for loving us All back and sharing your special gift with those that needed it most.
See You on The Other Side
of The Rainbow Bridge.

Robin, a gentle soul who found solace at Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue and Sanctuary, passed away peacefully in late September 2024.
Arriving at the sanctuary with a severe eye injury that left him blind in one eye and a cataract in the other, Robin faced a challenging future. Yet, he was met with unwavering love and care from the dedicated volunteers at Last Chance.
To ensure his safety and comfort, Robin was paired with a seeing-eye companion named Prince. Together, they formed an inseparable bond, sharing a large space separated by a low half wall. This unique arrangement allowed them to enjoy each other's company while maintaining their individual needs.
Often seen grazing side by side, Robin and Prince exemplified the power of companionship. Robin would frequently rest his head against Prince, seeking comfort and security. Their bond was so profound that just days after Robin's passing, Prince followed him across the Rainbow Bridge.
Though deeply saddened by their loss, the volunteers at Last Chance find comfort in knowing that Robin and Prince are now together, exploring greener pastures. They will be forever remembered for their gentle spirits and the extraordinary bond they shared.

Floyd was a thoroughbred gelding who raced for 6 years in the United States. When Floyd arrived he weighed approximately 700 lbs. eventually busting the scale at over 1200 lbs. He was in extremely poor condition. He was under weight and neglected. Floyd found his home at LCHPRS. He was kind, gentle and inviting. His Chestnut body glimmered in the sun as he grazed peacefully through the remainder of his years. Towards the end, Floyd was increasingly experiencing set backs. Multiple bouts of Colic, weight loss and progressive arthritis.
It was time to say
"See You On The Other Side..."

Sadly, we lost our beloved friend Garry in June 2022.
Garry was always there for us, and drove from Hamilton on a daily basis to spend time at the Rescue.
Garry was a fixture at the barn, either with a paint brush in his hand, helping at our fundraising events, or simply sitting outside one of the stalls singing to the horses.
Garry, the barn is empty without you.
You are missed!
Our dear friend and long time volunteer Barb passed away December 2021.
She loved all animals, especially dogs and horses. Barbara raised and showed Afghan Hounds and was a volunteer at the Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue.
Thank You Barb for your years of service.
We Miss You!
In Memory of our friend Shirley Payne, who passed away on October 22, 2018. Shirley and her daughter Charity used to visit the Rescue before she became ill, and sewed many of the costumes we use for special events.
We will miss you Shirley.

Bucky passed away the summer of 2022 at 50. Bucky was a very chill dude and always liked to get petted. We will miss you Bucky
Chase was our Robert Redford of the barn. He charmed all of his visitors, and all of the mares that shared his paddocks.
The barn is a lonely place without him!
Chase was a 22 year old quarter horse and fully trained in both western and English riding. Chase was an American Paint Horse, and came to the barn in 2012. Sadly, Chase passed from Cancer.
Daisy passed this past year at the ager of 30.
Daisy was an incredibly sweet horse and wonderful with children.
Before Daisy came to us she was kept for quite a long time on a farm where she had no contact with other horses. She could not even see other horses. She was incredibly happy to be able to be in a herd again and was a dominant mare with her group.

Charlie, so many of us miss your big, beautiful, soleful eyes....Your kisses, and your goofy personality.

Angel's Bio:
Angel was born on May 13th 1983. Angel is a thoroughbred mare. She came to the rescue to retire since her previous owners feared she would end up in a bad home. Angel is 100% bombproof and very well natured. She is used for our timid beginning riders who need to build confidence. She is extremely calm, slow, and quiet when ridden in the arena but gets very excited and even a little energetic when she is out on hacks. Angel is the most easy going and agreeable horse in the barn which makes her the perfect horse for people who are nervous about riding.

Pokey's Bio:
Pokey was born in 1984. He is a registered Morgan. Pokey's first career was as an RCMP horse. Unfortunately, he suffered injuries when he was struck by a car while on duty. Pokey was given to a new home, but unfortunately, because he could not be ridden, they quickly took him out of that situation and asked if we would take Pokey in and allow him to properly retire and be among children.
Our gentle girl, Bella, is missed daily.

He was the first to greet Sharon every morning when she entered the barn. He represented everything the Rescue stands for. We'd like to think that the last 4 years Lucky spent with us were 4 of his happiest. Lucky was a guardian angel to Ruby, her foal Malakye and Nika. R.I.P. and run free Lucky you will be missed.

So incredibly gentle and, eventually, such a wonderful success story, he became a popular boy in the barn. He continued to have difficulty walking but at LCHPRhe thrived. Often seen wandering the front yard, Sundance became the best horse in the world to be around and was left do whatever he pleased. He certainly had earned it.
Queenie, was a thoroughbred mare who raced at Fort Erie Race Track. Because of an injury, and age, her owners ended her racing career and she was left here on the farm. Queenie's personality was never that of a race horse, rather she was calm and quiet and easy to work with as a riding horse.

1985-2016 Sunny D came to us when his owners found themselves in a situation where they needed to move him. With no place for him to go, they asked if we could help. Originally Sunny D was a lesson horse and a trail riding horse. He was severely over worked and over used during parts of his past. His previous owners wanted to make sure he could retire in peace. When he arrived, Sunny D had a very noticeable sway back from being ridden so much. On first meeting he seemed like a big grouch, but once you got to know him he was a very sweet boy.

Hope was born in 1998 (we think). She was a Percheron mare, and was loved by all. When she arrived she was in horrible shape. So horrible, she could barely walk into the barn. She was grotesquely underweight, covered in cuts and scars. Her feet were so overgrown she could barely walk. She had electrical tape around one hoof and her tail had been shaved off. Hope was terrified to leave her stall and extremely aggressive to other horses (for fear they would take her food or her home) since she had not been exposed to life with other horses in an environment where she didn't have to fight for food to survive. It took plenty of time, effort, money, and care to make Hope healthy and happy again. Hope will missed by everyone that visited the barn and saw what a special horse she was.
