Romeo, and his sister Juliet, came to Last Chance in November 2021.
These 2 adorable baby fainting goats were approx 3 months old. They were small and timid, so we did what we could to keep them warm and well cared for during the upcoming winter. We even had a volunteer make them warm fleece PJs!
As they made their home, they are loved by all. Juliet is her brother’s protector. Over time it was noticed that Romeo was starting to rest on his knees occasionally, and most recently, he does not walk on his front legs at all. This is primarily due to genetics and inflammation. Our volunteers have been trying infrared therapy on his knees to help relieve some of the inflammation. His movement around the barn is limited to his stall.
Enter Mackenzie, one of our newest volunteers. She instantly formed a bond with Romeo and Juliet, and wanted to help keep him mobile. So came the idea of somehow creating an assistive device. With the help of her family, they modified a child’s wheelchair and cut wholes in the seat to accommodate Romeo’s front legs!
With a few test drives, Romeo can now move about the barn with supervision, and is so happy to see his buddies!
As you can see by the clip with Volunteer Josh, Romeo is kicking up his hind legs in happiness!
